October Update – Aquatics

By Su

Our partnership with FINA not only gives scholarship swimmers the facilities and coaching they need to swim to their full potential, but also benefits students in PIA.

Our youngest students enjoyed a few sessions of instruction from the elite swimmers. Seeing the FINA swimmers every day gives our students the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by them.

The FINA swimmers are also joining classes to learn Thai, improve their English skills, and integrate in the effort of our school to be a center of cosmopolitan citizenship, strengthening the cooperation between the school and the training facility, and contributing to the Thanyapura spirit along the way.

The FINA group has broken four new national records in different events and sites: Sirish Gurung now owns the 200 breastroke mark, while Sofia Shah claimed the 400 freestyle one by over twenty seconds, both for Nepal. Kimiko Raheem broke the 100 backstroke Sri Lanka record at the Junior World Championships in Singapore, going under the 1:05 barrier.

Record numbers from the growing Thanyapura/PIA family participated at the Thanyapura Open on the 19th of September. Most of the 45 swimmers from our team achieved new personal bests and took great memories home. A special word of thanks to Andrew Ross and the PIA volunteers that made this event not only possible but also the best-organized in this site to date.

Congratulations to the group and to the growing Thanyapura/PIA family, which with the help of an enthusiastic group of parents have made the dream of Thanyapura a great and blossoming reality.
